Since 2022, the Okanagan Nation Alliance (ONA) and the Centre for Indigenous Environmental Resources (CIER) have collaborated to unite Syilx and local government leaders in the Okanagan Lake Watershed. This initiative is based on ONA’s siwɬkʷ Water Declaration and aims to address shared water challenges through a Syilx-led process.
Since December 13, 2023, regional leaders have met to discuss the health of the watershed. In preparation for this collaborative process, 24 leaders participated in interviews sharing insights on community issues and priorities, which are compiled in this book as a foundation for building trust and collaboration.
