Jordan’s Principle Lead- Permanent, Full-Time
The Okanagan Nation Alliance (ONA) is the Tribal Council for the Syilx Okanagan Nation. The ONA’s mandate is to advance, assert, support and preserve the Syilx Okanagan Nation title and Rights. Further, the ONA is charged with providing members with a forum to discuss and form positions on areas of common concern.
The ONA is currently interested in employing a Jordan’s Principle Lead who will be responsible to lead the development, implementation and maintenance of the Jordan’s Principle Enhanced Service Coordination Model. In leading the program’s processes and services, the Lead will ensure Syilx world view and protocols in order to uphold the Wellness Committee mandate, as it relates to wellness services.
Scope of Position:
This position will work with the Wellness Team as well as Okanagan Nation communities, committees, external governments, First Nations and other partners. This role is accountable to the Child & Family Administrator and oversees the Jordan’s Principle Coordinators, ensuring effective case management with stakeholders and community partners.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Service Program Responsibilities
- Develop and oversee Program Manual, ensuring it is reviewed, current and implemented.
- Lead the successful implementation, coordination and delivery of the Jordan’s Principle program.
- Create an annual program workplan aligned with assigned budget.
- Ensure safe, accountable and timely delivery of quality Jordan’s Principle service planning and services to the ONA communities.
- Build and maintain working relationships with community staff and community partners.
- Lead program development, including research, informed by program evaluation and community staff.
- Lead networks, committees and working groups as decided in Strategic planning.
- Provide recommendations to the Wellness Committee and Policy Team for policy and programming.
- Provide specialist advice and consultation to Syilx communities regarding program planning and persons served consultation.
- Other duties as discussed and agreed upon.
Qualifications and Experience:
Master’s degree in social work or related discipline with a minimum of (5) five years recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of best practices in delivery of social services to Indigenous communities.
- Some knowledge and abilities in strategic planning, human resources, finance and administration.
- Strong understanding and awareness of both Federal and Provincial Health and Social policy required.
- Community development practice experience required.
- Knowledge and experience of Syilx Okanagan Nation communities is essential.
- Ability to create reports.
- Excellent mediation and conflict resolution skills.
- Demonstrated organizational, time management and presentation skills.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office, project management and budgeting software tools.
- Must have excellent interpersonal, communication and technical writing skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the colonial legacy and impacts and effective methods for working with intergenerational trauma.
- Experience in working with Indigenous organizations.
- Availability of a reliable vehicle and a valid BC Drivers’ License.
- Ability to work flexible work hours/willingness to work on evenings and weekend.
- Current criminal record (vulnerable sector) check with the RCMP
Hours of work: 40 hours per week.
Wage: $39.80-$53.57 per hour
